Another Point of View
I had posted the pictures above to our finds page back in May of 2011. They are of Dror Wassershtain's new project Rover P2 16.
Its a clean rust free car. Britcar people will give it a lookover and say they had better or worse. Some may say, "I have a grille for that", or "I need that windscreen." Any one who has seen Dror's Morris 8 will agree that Dror does quality restoration work.
Now for a different point of view.
Scroll up a bit, look at the right side of the pictures above. Notice anything?
You could be forgiven if you did not.
Its a gun carrier. I knew this at the time, but did not think much of it.
Others noticed. Members of the OMVA (Ontario Military Vehicle Association) posted the following thread to their Maple Leaf Up forum.
Below, in a picture my Father took, is Cfn Maloney in a Bren Gun Carrier at the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry B ech L.A.D in Korea, 1952. This is very similar to what is next to Dror's Rover in the pictures above.

Fordson Van in Korea, 1951
Seeing as we need something British here, from my dad's pictures is this Fordson 7V van used as a NAAFI canteen in Pusan Korea in 1951. NAAFI is the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes, a patronage of HM the Queen. It brings a bit of home to British, and Commonwealth, forces where ever they are serving in the world.

Hudson British Car Show
All British Vehicle enthusiasts are cordially invited!
Every second year our club the Hudson Antique Car Klub presents the Hudson British Car Show in Hudson, Que. This has become the biggest British car show in this part of the country.
This years show is scheduled for Sunday 27 May and as usual will be held in St. Thomas Park in the center of the quaint little village of Hudson just 20 miles west of Montreal.
All though the public is invited and we usually get about 2000 visitors, this show was conceived and is planned as a "car guys" show. We don’t charge a registration fee, there is no pre-registration, once your vehicle is safely parked on the field you return to the registration desk where the first 300 cars to register get a goody bag containing a dash plaque, information package and gifts from our sponsors.
The show grounds are conveniently located in town within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants, antiques and sight-seeing.
This will be our 6th show, we regularly get about 400 cars. The show field is only open Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm however for those who would like to make a weekend of it, on Saturday a flea market visit and country road run have been organized, followed by a bar-b-q and evening get-together at the Chateau Du Lac, our local watering hole.
If you might like to stay over-night there are many local B&B’s, motels and hotels and we would be glad to put you in touch with them.
This is a totally volunteer run show. All income generated from our sponsors and the raffle goes towards the expenses incurred in running the show and any money left over is donated to local charities.

Marmota Monax, Weather Prognosticator
Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania is the home of Marmot weather forcasting since 1887. At 7:20 AM Punxsutawney Phil is to emerge from his home, gaze about, and determine if his shadow is visible.
In Wiarton, Ontario, Wiarton Willie has been forcasting winter's end for many years. Every few years the Groundhog shadow cabinet looks for the next incarnation of Willie. This is much like Tibetan Monks looking for incarnations of the Dalai Lama.
Shubenacadie Sam lives in the Shubenacadie Provinical Wildlife Park in Shubenacadie Nova Scotia. Because of the Atlantic time zone he and his Cape Breton competitor, Two Rivers Tunnel of Mira River NS are the first to give their learned opinion.
Balzac Billy lives in Balzac Alberta. He holds the fate of southern Albertans in the palm of his... paw.
Remember!
Don't Drive Angry
|
|
If you look at Wikipedia's entry for "Groundhog Day", you will find 26 groundhog forcasts for 2011. There is one groundhog I did not notice at Sutton Ontario. Both Sutton Sammy and Wiarton Willy forcast an early spring last year. Tell that to the attendees at Ancaster Flea Market in April.
Anyway, here are the forcast for the major Marmots I could find on web this morning.
|
Punxsutawney Phil
|
Phil saw his shadow, and many more of them. Six more weeks of winter for Pennsylvania. Is this multiplied by the number of extra shadows?
|
|
Wiarton Willie
|
No shadow, an early spring coming. We'll see when Ancaster comes around.
|
|
Shubenacadie Sam
|
No shadow, an early spring. But isn't spring like winter only warmer?
|
|
Two Rivers Tunnel
|
No shadow, an early spring. This guy must be grumpy before his morning coffee. He does not get up 'til 11 AM local. At 11:20, local, he made this prediction in front of somewhere between 70 and 80 onlookers.
|
|
Balzac Billy
|
At 8:12 MST this morning Balzac Billy emerged from his burrow and put on his sunglasses, indicating 6 more weeks of winter. I wonder if this is a mixed message. Calgary has not been doing too bad this winter. Sunglasses could mean sunny, sunny weather!
|
There you have it. There were more than a couple of dozen groundhogs last year, and this moring I found a half dozen more. Search out your own groundhog, hold him, squeeze him, seek medical attention!

One Lady Owner
1959 Anglia Deluxe Saloon
105E, Sunburst Yellow
87,000 Miles
"She was my life line really when you stop to think about it. And here in all these far flung places I got means of moving and I could pack things in to her and be independent.
And, oh no,
I liked it, I just liked it."
- Doris Clark
Doris Clark liked her Anglia so much she kept it for 36 years, but after it became too much for her to look after, she gave it away.
Now in the corner of a Sussex barn it waits for restoration.

There are three parts to this episode of the TV show, Classic British Cars. I can find a reference to the show on the IMDB site and a few other references to it in web searches, but no direct link. I am guessing the show has been out of production for some time now.

Victoria Island Morris, Little Mo
Hi there, I was reading things on the British Car Club website and you asked for any pictures, maybe you’d like to take a look at our baby.
We have a 1966 Minor 1000 in mint condition, thanks to hours of labour on my and the previous owner’s parts. We live in Saanichton BC and are the talk of the town when we go shopping on sunny days in "Little Mo". It’s a magnet to folks who remember the Morris. It has 56000 miles on the clock and runs like a sewing machine.
I found little "Mo" in North Vancouver with a gent named Doug Herbert, he had owned Mo for 27 years. He advertised on Kijiji where I saw his ad the day he put it on. We went over that weekend and after a checkover, we gave him the cash and the following weekend went over and brought Mo home on Totem. That was August 2009. I did quite a bit of work to Mo to bring it to my satisfaction, as you can see by the attached file, now she’s perfect for me. I pop along to the meetings of the BCC on the Pat Bay, but have not joined the club, mainly because I am now retired and free of all the many meetings I had to attend before, so I am reluctant to get hooked up again. I really enjoy the meetings at times and take little Mo to the British Car Show in Beacon Hill Park, where I get swamped with friendly enquirers.
I love that.
We are ex-South Africans and I was an auto/diesel mechanic and worked extensively on these Morrises in the 50’s and 60’s. Everyone had one. Just thought you’d get a kick out of having a look at the little car.
Yours in British cars,
Jack Foster.

Happy New Year!
What can I tell you, its been a great year!
Between Tony's pictures from the Stag Party Weekend, revamping the Business Card section, moving all of the 2011 posts to an archive, and have it work (somewhat), along with my own work I am bushed. I am hitting someone up for lunch at the AGM! :o)
I have always been dissatisfied with the business cards, so I enlarged them. Now they are readable. Some are a bit tatty after being photocopied (from the old days), scanned and re-scanned. I would appreciate it if owners of these cards would check them out, For linking them, I had to type the links and e-mail addresses by hand. The links, themselves are alright, but there may still be typos for the e-mail addresses. There are many cards that could do with replacing, and some have dead links.
Why now? Well, Ian Cox sent me a better copy of his
British Car Shop
card. Then, Andy Henderson contacted me wanting to promote his
business
. So, after absolutely no arm twisting of any kind, I ended up with a new member and two new cards. The decision was made, time to revamp.
In addition to that I got Andy to send in a picture or two of his rides. He is a bike guy with a Triumph, a Norton, a BSA, and an Ariel in his stable. Add to that, he lives in a great riding area in Western Alberta.
Tony still has calendars
Contact him at: tonyfox@sympatico.ca
Or mail him at the address in the Oily Rag
It is also time to get your stuff in for the Oily Rag!
Deadline is: Tuesday, Jan 3, 2012
(I had better be getting my stuff in too, sheesh)
