The Dealerships
|
Those who bought new went to dealerships such as these ones advertised in Canada Track and Traffic. I do not know what the advertisement climate was in the 60's but these ads run from car performance to lifestyle to just putting the dealership name forward. Techniques seem to be similar to the ones I used in making up high school yearbooks in the 70's. Cut it, paste it and send it off.
If any one has any remembrances of these, or any other, dealerships let me know. I can add it here.
If any one has any newspaper adds I can include them here

Westgrove Rambler Hillman Street Scenes August-September 1961
This Rambler dealership, Westgrove Rambler Hillman was located on the north-west corner of Islington Avenue and Bloor Street West.
It was demolished in 1965 to make way for the Islington subway station. Here in August of 1961 it was a thriving business.
A friend of Roger's was searching White Rose information on the web and came across these pictures from the City of Toronto Archives, and thought we'd be interested.
As a side to this, in the same collection of pictures was a White Rose station at the north-eastern corner of Islington Avenue and Dundas Street West. According to the Toronto Archives the station continues to operate under the Shell banner to this day.
In September of 1961, hiding behind the Buick is an Austin Healey 100.
If anyone else has more information on this dealership, I'd love to have it.

As the dealer ads on the BSCCoC site are rather Toronto centric thought I'd send you a couple from the Whitehorse Star of April 1964.
The papers were found many years ago when I was wandering around in the bush and came across an abandoned cabin, roof collapsed with the papers inside.
As a resident of Toronto in the 1960's all the dealers mentioned were familiar to me, especially Kovac Motors on Liard Drive as I worked at the CIBC branch on the opposite corner.
Just up the street was Comstock Construction. Those of you of a certain age will remember them being heavily involved with Ford racing and rallying programs using American and English Ford products.
