Egyptian Austin

Derek Foy

Derek Foy

I am not a member but thought someone might be interested. It looks like an early 50s Austin A 30 convertible found in Cairo Egypt.

That is all I have, we were on a tour 8 with people and had so many things to see and had to move quickly. That, plus the political situation (The Uprising had already happened) you don't want to touch things that belong to someone else. What we did see was great, our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

I bought my car, a 1953 Morris Oxford, last September and loved it ever since. It is all original, except for paint, with 34,000 miles and the original spare tyre. Wherever I go I get so much attention it is in such good condition.

1971 Jaguar V12 E Type 2+2

Found this at the side of Grey County Road 14 just north of Cedarvale. It was for sale at this time. $8000 from Back Street Heroes in Arthur Ontario (twelve@bmts.com). It does need work, what do you expect for $8000?

Dror Wassershtain's New Project

Elva's friend from Haifa Israel sent some pictures of his newest project A Rover P2 16.

Dror is no stranger to restoration, his last project was this Morris 10

Here are some pictures of the few British classic cars I saw in France recently.
There were scads of current MINIs and Range Rovers but not many classics.

Spitfire on the city streets

Triumph TR6 For Sale

MG RZ residing in a parking spot

Rover 400 sitting and waiting

The Mini is of particular interest as it has unusual guards around
the rear and the front lights, 11 out of 12 that I saw in Paris had this feature.

This green open car is a Lotus although it didn't look familiar to me

Frank French find in Arizona January 2009

Frank French

I'm presuming it's a Standard 8

Frank French

It is in very good shape and you can see a bit of a shine on the shady side.

Frank French

The back of the Standard, the paint is rather faded but the licence tag is 09, so it's in use

Frank French

With the trafficators and right hand drive it is probably late 1950's.

Responses from Britcartalk

Here's more info on Standard Eight: http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/1124/

By the looks of it that one must be one of the very earliest. Sliding glass rather than roll- up windows, tiny tail lights, no hub caps. Probably a 1953.
--Darrell McDonald

Neat! It is an early Standard 8, circa 1953, and it's one of the very basic versions with sliding door glass and no external boot lid. The car had been for sale on eBay awhile back, but perhaps it didn't sell. I wouldn't mind having it if it weren't over 2000 miles away.

Last I knew, the owner still had the original 803cc engine for it, but it's running an 1147 Herald or Spitfire engine currently, as I recall.
