President & Executive
Hi all, its that time of year when we start to prepare for the Annual General Meeting. Please see the separate article in this issue for all the information as well as an indication of our financial situation. As mentioned in the last issue of the Oily Rag there the only open spot on the Executive and that is a rather key one, that being Chairman, we do require that position to be filled so as to have a complete 2013 Executive. So please give it some thought as I will not be standing for that position. While its been fun being Chairman at various times over the last 18 years its time to step down.
At a recent Executive meeting the rising costs associated with running the Club were discussed and it has been decided that in an effort to keep the Club financially viable we will be moving to 4 issues of the Oily Rag a year rather than the current 6. Another reason for this change is the difficulty we have in getting people to write articles. It seems to fall to the same small group and they are running out of ideas to keep six issues interesting. We can look at making the 4 issues a little longer with more content. This issue will be the first issue in 2013 with the next issues coming out in June, Sept and Dec. It is unfortunate that this step has to be taken but given the cost pressures we are facing there is really no choice. We did have the alternative of increasing the renewal fees by $5-10 per year, but we chose to reduce the number of issues to address the input issue at the same time.
It won’t belong before the its time for the Ancaster Flea Market in mid April, check the Events Calendar for the date. This event kicks off the Brit car scene in Southern Ontario and if you are within reasonable driving distance it should not be missed. Look for the Club table and come over and say hello! There is always a good selection of parts and cars available for sale. Also have a look at the Events Calendar and seek out a function near you that will allow you to meet other members, its always a good time.
Thanks,
Roger

From our new Chairman, John Griffith
|
Greetings fellow British Saloon Car enthusiasts!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is John Griffith and I was fortunate enough to be elected to the position of Chair of the British Saloon Car Club of Canada at the A.G.M. in March. Although I was born in Manchester, I have lived in Canada for more than 40 years. I have been a member of the Club since 1995, but I must admit that I have not been what one would call an “active” member. The primary reason for this, I suppose, is that I do not own a British car, and have not done since I sold my M.G. TA to pay for my ticket to Canada in 1969.
I am certainly looking forward to accepting the challenges that this position might throw my way, and I am looking forward to working with the executive team and with all the area co-ordinators. I say ‘working’, but I hope that this will turn out to be a ‘labour of love’ rather than a job!
I will make every effort to attend a few more runs in the future, although Roger has quietly suggested that I keep my Ford Focus well to the rear of the ‘parade!’
Looking forward to meeting you all soon!
Regards,
John Griffith
